SP/RITUAL
SP/RITUAL - Spiritual Rituals by Studio Priyanka
The first inaugural embodied ritual salon. At Studio Priyanka, we work through four pillars: Cuisine, Culture, Communion and Community.
Cuisine has been our first language. Ritual follows as its extension.
Through SP/RITUAL, we begin to share ancient Indian culture through ritual - as lived practice - as a sacred salon for rituals
Alongside, a considered offering of bites.
An invitation to gather, to partake, and to experience.
An exploration of living traditions of South India through participation
A salon for sacred Rituals, by Studio Priyanka
Sacred Ritual SalonsFriday 24th April, 6-9 PM ❋ Malli & Sambrani
A Spiritual Salon for Sacred Hair Adornment
The Ritual
Hair adornment rituals of South India.
Madurai malli - white jasmine, handwoven and placed along the braid.
Sambrani, gently burned to perfume, soften, and ground.
An act of care rooted in memory and continuity.
A quiet transition from the everyday into ritual.
The Setting
An invitation to slow down.
An ancient ritual of braiding hair, carried out slowly and with care. Jasmine strands woven into the braid, their fragrance unfolding gently. Sambrani smoke passing through, warm and meditative.
A gathering held in softness.
Traditional South Indian bites and warm, spiced drinks offered in quiet rhythm.
A space that feels like another time.
Where scent, touch, and memory meet.
Together, we slow down time
Saturday 25th April, 6-9 PM ❋ Saree tradition
A Spiritual Salon for the Art of Draping
The Ritual
An expansive length of cloth, brought into form through draping.
Six yards for the everyday.
Nine for ceremony.
Worn close to the solar plexus, aligning cloth, body, and gesture.
Fabric, wrapped by hand, becomes a living structure.
An act of presence, rooted in time, craftsmanship, and memory.
The Setting
An invitation to slow down.
The saree is draped slowly, fold by fold. Each movement deliberate. Each pleat held with care. The body becomes the frame through which the cloth takes shape.
A shared space. A quiet gathering.
Traditional bites and warm drinks offered alongside. Small pauses held between gestures.
A feeling of another time.
Where cloth, body, and memory meet.
Where the act of dressing becomes ritual.
Together, we return to form.
Sunday 26th April , 6-9 PM ❋ Kolam
A Spiritual Salon for Sacred Geometry
The Ritual
Patterns of auspiciousness, drawn at the threshold using rice flour.
Patterns shift with the day and occasion, guided by sacred geometry.
An act of welcome, offering, and continuity.
A practice that honours impermanence and the quiet rhythm of repetition.
An invitation to engage with earth, pattern, and gesture.
The Setting
An invitation to slow down.
Kolam is drawn by hand, line by line. Rice flour meeting the ground in soft, deliberate movement. Patterns emerge, dissolve, and return.
A shared space. A gentle gathering.
Traditional South Indian bites and warm drinks offered alongside. Moments held between making and being.
A sense of time softened.
Where earth, hand, and form come together.
Where the everyday becomes sacred.
Together, we return to rhythm.
An exploration of living traditions of India through participation.
